How to Win Friends, Influence People, and Maybe Even Save Democracy with Airtable

It's already trite to say the pandemic forced us to change the way we do things. One arena where that became most obvious: education. While the move to Distance Learning receievd a lot of coverage, what about Distance Extracurriculars? What about those activities that used to keep students engaged on campus and deepen their educational experience? Throughout the pandemic, and beyond, we innovated ways to use the latest and greatest (and the classic) Airtable features to keep hundreds of students connected across time and space, managing everything from meeting agendas to zoom links to project submissions. Now that we've come through the pandemic (you know, -ish), can we carry those lessons forward to improve the in-person experience? And how do you convince those comfortable with excel email attachments that making the leap to Airtable is worth their time learning new skills?

Prerequisites

  • Insatiable curiosity about how to make program participation easier (for students, teachers, and parents - or customers, leadership, and managers, depending on your point of view).

Takeaways

  • How we use Airtable to save democracy

  • How to explain the benefits of Airtable to an audience with little interest and even less time available to learn a new.

    • Top brain hacks needed to flip from excel/google sheet thinking to database thinking
  • How the process (a database) improves the content and thus the learning experience for program participants.
